Selborne College
Class of 1972

Welcome to the Selborne College Class of 1972 web site.

This site is a gathering point and a celebration of the 12 years that we spent together at the Selborne Schools, from 1961 to 1972.

The 40th reunion weekend is now a memory of the past, but what a great one it was?  We are adding pictures of the event to this site, to view them visit the School Photo Gallery and check out the many galleries of pictures.  Please keep visiting and maintain your profile, with news and details of your life.

This website will be going until the next main event in 2022 which is now in the planning stage, and we will endeavour to run regular but infrequent emails of news.

Reunion 2022

The school’s sesquicentenary (150 years) is now less than 18 months away.  It will also be the 50th anniversary of our matric’ year, and a cause for celebration.

The school PRO Alan Parsons has advised Tubby that the date is set for Friday, 21st October 2022, subject to Education Department approval.  Tubby has organised the Rugby Den at the Old Boys Club for the Thursday evening get together, which is the same room as 2012.

The school has extensive plans for the event and a committee chaired by Gwyn Bassingthwaite has been formed to organize the event.  Early details here.

As a result of the pandemic the Class of 1970 whose fiftieth was last year and could not celebrate it and are moving it to 2022.  The same change is likely for other classes impacted by the pandemic and 2022 is likely to be a very busy Founder’s weekend.

We are at the early stages of planning for the weekend and current thinking is to follow much the same format as ten years ago.  We will shortly be providing a Survey page to get details on potential attendance for logistic purposes.  Please enter your intentions, even if tentative.  More details will follow as these take shape and an Event page will be placed in this site in due course.  If anyone has any ideas or requests, please share them with us via email or by using the website.

With just two years before the event, we recommend that you start planning for travel arrangements.  If anyone has financial issues which preclude you from joining, please contact Tubby Reid on [+27 83 285 6777] confidentially, as we will be making resources available for anyone in these circumstances.  We are hoping for a large turnout, as it is likely the last chance we will have to meet.

Anyone who was at our 40th reunion will vouch for the incredible impact that these reunions have on one. We are really trying hard to get everyone to attend our 50th as it is likely that reunions thereafter will be low key events because of our advancing age and other constraints. So if you’re only ever going to attend one reunion – please seriously consider coming to our 50th.

Missing Classmates

We now have 40 'missing' classmates for whom we have no details. This is after adding as many guys as we could remember who were with us on the journey at any stage during 1961 and 1972.  If you visit the site and know the contact details of anyone in the missing list, please get hold of them and ask them to register.  If they are guys without access to the internet, please send their details to Mike Francis at

We are trying to get as many guys involved as possible, to share and reminisce about a special time in our lives.

On Facebook?

The class also has a Facebook page.  If you use Facebook, visit the page and add yourself, and read what those already on the page have been doing.
