Founders' Day 2023

Founders' Day 2023 is scheduled for Friday 20th October 2023.  The Founders' weekend will comprise of a number of events at the school as well as Old Boys activities.

This will be the hundredth Founders' Day at the current College campus, which was opened in 1923.  The core builings are from that era, and the facilities have been expanded significantly since then.  As always, the Ceremony of the Key on Friday will form the focal point of the weekend.  It is ninety-nine years sine the memorial in front of the school was consecrated.

The programme, to be confirmed is as follows:

Thursday 19th October
Old Selbornian AGM at the Old Boys Club at 6pm.
Reunion Group Celebrations at the Club 

Friday 20th October
Ceremony of the Key at 9am
Tea in the College Hall after the CotK
Cadet Corps Retreat on Main Field at 5pm
SpitBraai at the water polo rena 6pm

Sunday 22nd October
Church Service at the School 

The guest of honour at the Ceremony of the Key is Dr. Tim Gordon.  Dr. Gordon was both a teacher at the College between 1972 and 1977 as well as the eighth headmaster between 1981 and 1992.   He took over from John Stonier and handed on to Alan (Sam) Gunn.  He will be very welcomed, particularly by the many reunion years who matriculated during his stewardship of the College.

The Ceremony of the Key is again going to be streamed on YouTube, and the URL to join is Ceremony of the Key Streaming.  It starts after 9am SA time, so check your time zone if outside South Africa.  It will be recorded and the details will be provided once known.
