Selborne College
Class of 1972

Welcome to the Selborne College Class of 1972 web site.

This site is a gathering point and a celebration of the 12 years that we spent together at the Selborne Schools, from 1961 to 1972.

The reunion weekend is now a memory of the past, but what a great one it was?  We are adding pictures of the event to this site, to view them visit the School Photo Gallery and check out the many galleries of pictures.  Please keep visiting and maintain your profile, with news and details of your life.

This website will be going until the next main event in 2022, and we will endeavour to run regular but infrequent emails of news.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hi to all the Old Boys,

Well, the Reunion is long in the past and we are two months into 2013.  My how time flies!  We raised a little over R14k at the Reunion and this is thanks to some very generous Old Boys who contributed to the financing of a number of items.  A very big thank you to these lads for without them we would not have had the Reunion we had.

Well, what to do with the change left over from Founder’s.  In chatting to the OSA staff and some of the school staff about the schools’ needs, we purchased a “stand”.  This not a “grand stand”, it is too small for that, but a stand like the one we sat on to watch the Ceremony of the Key.  This costs us R20k and the good news is that it will generate funds for us to reinvest at a later stage.  How this works is that the school or OSA will sell advertising space on the back of the stand at a cost of R6k per annum and the purchaser will commit himself to a period of 3 years.   We are a little short of the R20k required but the school has agreed to “loan” us the R6k.  Once all  advertising revenue comes it will be paid over to the school and the debt settled.  I bet you never thought you would jointly own assets with your school mates.

For those of you who left Mommy at home and travelled from afar to the Reunion, plus the local OB who also joined in the activities, we have produced a video of the weekend activities so you can show her what you were up to.  Plus, for the OB who had other commitments and could not visit us, they can have a look at this class of rapidly greying, balding and sometimes paunchy OBs and guess who was who.  Some faces you won’t recognise.  The DVD is 1hr 29min long, is a little short of 4.9Gb and had to fit onto a duel layer DVD disk.  It has scenes from the Thursday evening braai, the full Ceremony of the Key, music in the quad, breakfast at Lavender Blue and the evening at the Blue Lagoon.  Stompie’s serenading Janet Conner is there as well.  Love never dies……  A number of still shots have also been included.

For those who are interested these are for sale at R50.00 each.  Being duel layer the disks are rather pricy and can be as much as R78 each in some shops.  However we found a cheaper provider and have passed the discount on to you.  For those that want one these will be posted to OB’s out of town and for the local lads, they can collect these from the OSA offices at the College.  I have made 20 copies so far and will let you have them on a first come first served basis.   If more are needed we will cut them.

Interested – deposit R50 into our bank account and send me an email with your name and address (just to check we have your latest address).  I will post these out or, for local OB, advise the OSA office that you have paid and you can collect your DVD from them.

Well done to all who organised this great reunion, not only to Fraz, Clee, Malcolm, Tubs & Mike P, but also to all the understanding wives and families behind the scenes. Great to have seen so many old boys of the class of 72 and some of our masters too.
Thoroughly enjoyed being there, catching up and sharing stories, reminiscing and basking in the reflected glory and success of so many of you guys. Can't believe where the years have gone but glad to have been part of the continuing Selborne story.

A special thanks as well to the founders of the internet and other wonderful marvels of modern technology that have brought us all a little closer by allowing us to communicate so easily despite many of us being spread across the miles, in many cases very far from the "confluence" of Dawson, Lukin and Gately Streets that we call the Rivers of Selborne which launched our canoes into the Duzi marathon of life.

All the best until the next formal get together. May the years treat us all kindly as we progress towards the next historic milestone which I am sure will be as successful as this 40th reunion has been.

Once again, best regards, good health and continued success and fulfillment to you and your families whether you're still working or taking it easier and now finding the time to pursue and enjoy your retirement goals and plans.

Missing Classmates

We now have 50 'missing' classmates for whom we have no details. This is after adding as many guys as we could remember who were with us on the journey at any stage during 1961 and 1972.  If you visit the site and know the contact details of anyone in the missing list, please get hold of them and ask them to register.  If they are guys without access to the internet, please send their details to Mike Francis at mike@praceng.com.

We are trying to get as many guys involved as possible, to share and reminisce about a special time in our lives.

On Facebook?

The class also has a Facebook page.  If you use Facebook, visit the page and add yourself, and read what those already on the page have been doing.
