2022 School News

Information update on Selborne - Impact of Covid and 150 year Jubilee Celebrations in 2022

The Selborne schools had their fair share of Covid trauma in the past 18 months. Classes  have been dramatically effected and teaching methods have had to adapt tremendously. Sport has been a start stop affair and the boys have lost out on a lot of fun and social life that is the hallmark of growing up. Two Matric classes will sadly not be able to speak about their last year at school as all other Matrics do but will forever refer to their last years as the “covid years”.  .

Andrew Dewar (College) and Riaan Bischoff (Primary) together with their staff have done a sterling job of keeping the schools on track.

Next year (2022) will hopefully be a more exciting year, especially for the boys, with Selborne celebrating their 150th anniversary.

There are a number of celebrations planned to mark this momentous occasion in the history of the schools, culminating in Founders’ Day in October 2022.

We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join us at Founders’ Day in 2022, helping to make it an unforgettable occasion.

The Jubilee Tower

To celebrate 150 years, a Jubilee Tower is being built on the Selborne College campus, directly opposite the main entrance of the College school hall. The Tower is inspired by history, and presents an opportunity to start new traditions.

The construction costs are being fully met from a very generous donation from the Allan and Gillian Gray Foundation.  The Jubilee Tower will be a celebration of the history of Selborne, with walkways and friezes depicting key aspects of the proud heritage of the school.

Future generations of Selbornians will ring the bell as they enter the Selborne College for the first time in Grade 8, acknowledging and accepting the heritage built up over 150 years. Matrics will ring the bell as they leave the school for the last time, marking their contribution to the school’s heritage.

Please see attached some photos of the Jubilee Tower in the process of construction.

We will be sending further updates shortly as well as news of the various functions and events to take place.
